Local man arrested after trespassing complaint

Columbus police arrested a local man for trespassing and drug possession after he was observed in a local store early Tuesday.

At 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, Columbus were sent to Walmart in the 700 block of Whitfield Drive about an individual who had previously trespassed and was inside the store, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers found and identified Robert J. Norton III, 35, of 720 Marr Road, and confirmed he had a trespass warning still in effect, Harris said.

While searching Norton, officers found a crystal rock substance inside a pack of cigarettes that tested positive as methamphetamine, Harris said.

Norton was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and trespassing, jail officials said.
