Local man arrested after call about unconscious person in a vehicle

A local man was arrested early Thursday morning after officers were sent to a call about an unconscious person in a vehicle.

Columbus police went to the 1800 block of West County Road 450S at 4:45 a.m. Thursday and woke up the driver, identified as Roy J. Brickert III, 31, Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

While speaking with Brickert, officers saw a syringe with a clear liquid inside the vehicle, Harris said. Additional narcotics and drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle, Harris said.

Brickert was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and later taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, arrested on preliminary charges of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a legend drug injection device.
