NEWPORT, TN
Kathleen Joyce Fourman Southerland, age 85, of Newport, went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2018.
She was born in Bartholomew County, Columbus, Indiana to Charles Virgil Fourman and Margaret Marie Pease Fourman on June 15, 1933. While attending Colubus High School, she was employed at G.C. Murphy Five and Dime Store in Columbus. After graduating from Columbus High School, she was employed at Arvin Industries, Public Service Company of Indiana and the Clifty School Cafeteria. She married John Rhea Southerland of the Briar Thicket Community of Cocke County in Tennessee on August 15, 1952 and to this union was one wonderful son, Randy David Southerland. She was an active member of New Home Free Will Baptist Church of Cocke County. She was also an active member of the Point Pleasant Community Watch. She was active in the Centerview Volunteer Fire Department. She was a former member of the Centerview Ruritan Club. She was employed at Aishie Grocery in the Point Pleasant Community of Cocke County, Tennessee and then went to K-Mart in Morristown, Tennessee, October 1975, until her retirement in January 1998. Her hobbies included cross-stitching, collecting praying hands and thimbles. She loved to cook, bake pies, and cookies and give them away. She also helped the elderly in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rhea Southerland, in February 1974 after 21 wonderful happy years of marriage; parents, Charles Virgil and Margaret Marie Fourman; sister, Phyllis Eleanor Fourman; and sisters-in-law Joanna Fourman, Lou Ellen Southerland and Emmy Moore.
She is survived by her son, Randy David Southerland and wife Nancy (Huskey) of Newport, Tennessee; grandsons, Jonathan Eugene Southerland and wife Marsha (Hux), of Newport, Tennessee, Bryan David Southerland and wife Kristy (Henderson) of Parrottsville, Tennessee; three precious great-granddaughters, Bethany Nicole, Kaylie Jane and Jaylyn Grace Southerland, all of Newport, Tennessee; two step-great-grandsons, Lee Henderson and wife Michelle and Dalton Henderson of Newport, Tennessee; Brothers, Ronald Lewis Fourman and wife Linda of Columbus, Indiana, and Donald Max Fourman and wife Libby of Seymour, Indiana; three nieces, Judy and husband Bill Wolpert of Golden Colorado, Nancy and husband James Treech of Columbus, Indiana, Laura and husband Gregg Coffee of Louisville, Kentucky; one nephew, Steven Fourman and wife Cheryl of Seymour, Indiana; six great-nieces, Kelsey and Kameran Wolpert of Golden, Colorado, Jessica Schroer and husband Mike of Columbus, Indiana, Erin Coffee of Louisvlle, Kentucky, Stephanie Steltenpohi of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Maria Schubert and husband Brian of Indianapolis, Indiana; Five great-nephews, Dereck Wolpert of Golden, Colorado, Jason Treech and wife Sarah of Columbus, Indiana, Nathan Coffee of Louisville, Kentucky, Brandon Fourman of Peppermill, Massachusetts and Matthew Fourman of Seymour, Indiana; Several, great-great-nieces and -nephews; Sisters-in-law on her husband’s side, Marie Southerland of Mosheim, Tennessee, and Frankie Dawson of Newport, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews on her husband’s side of the family. She had several special friends — too many to name — and we are afraid we might miss some and don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings so we will not try and list them. Her motto was to treat people like she wanted to be treated.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm — 8:00 pm Friday, July 6, 2018 with funeral services following at 8:00 pm in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Darrell Chambers and Rev. Doug King officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 7, 2018 in New Home Cemetery.
