NORTH VERNON
Alice JoAnn Kage, 85, of North Vernon passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at the South Central Indiana Hospice Center in Columbus. She was surrounded by family.
Alice was born October 21, 1932, in North Vernon, to Hallie Corya and Mary Alice (Bacon) Corya.
She graduated from North Vernon High School in 1950 and Indiana University-Bloomington in 1954 with a degree in education.
On April 23, 1965, Alice married Richard C. “Dick” Kage. Dick and Alice celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2015.
She taught kindergarten and first grade until 1991 when she retired to care for her granddaughters.
She taught hundreds of first grade students at North Vernon Elementary and enjoyed seeing them in later years. During retirement, Alice was an avid Longaberger consultant and branch leader.
Survivors include a son, Bradley (Kimberly) Kage of North Vernon; and a granddaughter, Allyson Kage of Indianapolis.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two grandchildren, Christopher Hallie and Emily Elizabeth Kage.
Given Alice’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. The family will have a private celebration of life. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.
