Around Town – July 12

Thought for the Day

• “The tragedy is not that things are broken. The tragedy is that they are not mended again.”

• — Alan Paton

• South African author

• 1903-88

Orchids to …

• the Little Lambs worker who brought me my forgotten DVD at Target, from Collin.

• John Tinkey for bringing two big cans of coffee to the fair office for the fair week, from the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair board.

• the administration for another super pick for the Supreme Court.

• the 20 bipartisan senators who comprised an immigration bill; sorry Trump rejected it.

• Madelyn, Aublany and Colton Speer for participating in Bartholomew County 4-H programs this year.

• the rock people for leaving a rock with love in June’s paper box, thank you.

• animal control staff for a rapid response and removal of a trapped skunk, from a strong supporter.

• Jeff Linke for helping me when I fell, from David.

• the man from United Way who gave me the royal treatment Wednesday morning on Parkland Court.

• the United Way volunteer girls for doing such a beautiful job Wednesday on my trailer, from a grateful resident in the park.

Onions to …

• an attorney that serves both Trump and foreign clients, a conflict of interest, when Trump promised to drain the swamp.

• those who continue to harass Trump children and grandchildren.

• the letter writer calling for civility when his party yelled and demonstrated instead of enjoying Independence Day.

• people who use their child as a bargaining chip to get what they want.

• ignorant people who think it’s OK to toss their used beverage and food containers out the window; what a colossal trash heap you’ve made of our roads and highways.

• lazy people who spray weed killer along the fence, which kills the grass and makes it turn brown — a danger to our little dog.

• people who set off firecrackers past midnight; the city ought to do something about all this nonsense.

• the people who cannot smile and are cranky at the places where you go to get free food for assistance; we don’t like going there either, but at least they should be able to smile.
