Everett H. Sims, 95, of Hope, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Everett retired from Public Service as a meter reader.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and arrived in Normandy on D-Day plus 9. He spent time in France, Germany, and Belgium. He was part of the 30th Infantry Division.
He was a lifetime hunter and hunted deer until he was 90 years old.
He loved gardening and working in his yard. He also enjoyed playing cards.
Born on July 29, 1922 in Clifford, Everett was the son of George O. and Edell P. Stucker Sims.
He married Betty L. Miller on August 25, 1942. They had been married for 75 years.
Survivors include wife, Betty; children, Harold W. (Debbie) Sims of Hope, James A. (Jannette) Sims of Columbus, Greg (Dottie) Sims of Hope and David (Sue) Sims of Columbus; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Lavon Wasson of Hope.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeffrey Sims; and siblings, Louise Teltoe, George Sims, and David Sims.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
