The Indiana Department of Transportation will restrict traffic to a single lane on State Road 9 at Little Haw Creek north of Hope Tuesday as part of a $1.5 million two-bridge rehabilitation project.
Traffic restrictions will start July 31 at a second State Road 9 bridge site south of Hope.
Flaggers will be onsite while equipment is put in place and barriers are moved.
The State Road 9 three-span bridge located 5.7 miles north of State Road 46 — where operations begin Tuesday, weather permitting — will receive a 2-inch latex modified concrete deck overlay designed to extend the 100-foot-long structure’s service life and improve rideability. Work there includes necessary repairs and new pavement approaches.
The 4-span bridge over Clifty Creek in Clifty and Clay Townships where work starts July 31 — requires more extensive rehabilitation. Its 260-foot-long deck will be removed and replaced — and new bridge rails installed — while other repairs are being made and approaches poured. This structure is located 0.5 miles north of State Road 46.
Temporary signals at either ends of both State Road 9 bridges will control one-direction-at-a-time traffic flow while construction operations take place on half the structure at a time. Motorists should anticipate brief delays through late-fall.
R. A. Myers Construction of Muncie is the state’s contractor.
State Road 9’s traffic north of Hope is 4,070 vehicles per day. South of Hope, it is 4,780 vehicles per day.
