I just want to share something that is close to my heart. This year is the 10-year anniversary of the founding of Reins to Recovery, Inc., a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
I have been involved for five years, and it is rewarding and fun. We’ve had rough times and we’ve had good times. We have grown in so many ways, sometimes it’s hard to believe. I can share success stories of our clients that would bring tears to people’s eyes and joy to their hearts.
Our major fundraiser is coming up, Aug. 11, at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds, and we really could use a lot of support from all the communities around us. We serve a free-will donation dinner of pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, blackberry cobbler and other deserts, with lemonade, tea and soda pop.
People can go to the Reins to Recovery Auction Facebook page and see all of the items to be auctioned. We have live and silent auctions, face painting for the kids and drawings for prizes. We really would like the public to join us.
We have purchased our own property, and although the property is located in Reddington, which is Jackson County, we serve Bartholomew, Jennings, Brown and Scott counties as well, helping people with all sorts of mental health and physical health issues, as well as victims of violence and abuse. We are looking to expanding to serve the military veterans with a post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) program, but that takes money.
I am asking that folks in our community to come to the auction and purchase something or donate to Reins. No amount of support is too small, and everything counts. We have Stage 1 of our large arena finished. Now we are working on starting Stage 2, but again it takes funding. We also need a commercial-type large lawnmower, a medium-size tractor, weed eaters, horse tack, horse feed, grass seed and more items to be used in therapy sessions like sensory toys. Not to mention the day-to-day things like toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, laundry soap, etc.
If people can’t donate monetarily, we need volunteers to work with the clients. Each client takes three volunteers, and we will train them on what they need to know. We need daytime, evening and event volunteers. A couple of hours one day a week is a big help. We can use volunteers for yard work, maintenance work or to serve on our fundraising committee.
Bottom line, we are a local, home-grown organization that totally depends on the charity and love of the folks around us to help us succeed in our mission: to improve lives one ride at a time.
People can go to our Web page, reinstorecovery.org, to find out more about us. But whatever people do, please consider helping us continue to grow with donations of time or money.
