Calvary outreach picnic feeds 320 people
Calvary Community Church’s recent back-to-school picnic fed 320 people, presented free backpacks to 212 students, and gave free haircuts to 60 youngsters.
The event was held July 21 across from the church at 1031 Chestnut St. in downtown Columbus.
The gathering featured bounce houses, games, sidewalk chalk art and more, according to organizers. Bishop Charles Sims, Calvary’s pastor, formulated the idea of making the annual church picnic that normally had been mostly for members into an outreach for the community.
The church covered food and other expenses by using its own budget along with help from area businesses. Organizers hope to repeat the event next summer.
