Columbus North fans will get a chance to see several fall sports teams in action Saturday evening at the school’s annual Blue and White Day.
Following a meeting for parents of all fall sports athletes at 5 p.m. and individual team meetings at 6 p.m., the boys and girls soccer teams will do a demonstration on the football field from 6:30 to 7 p.m. A Blue-White volleyball scrimmage will take place in the main gym from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The football team will take the field for warmups at 7 p.m. and will begin scrimmaging at 7:30 p.m. Cheerleaders will be introduced at 7:15 p.m.
At halftime of the football scrimmage, the boys and girls cross-country teams will run a mile on the track.
“It’s a great way to kick off the school year and the athletic seasons and to get everybody back together,” North athletics director Jeff Hester said.
Admission to Blue and White Day is free, and All-Sports passes for the 2018-19 school year will be on sale beginning at 6 p.m. There also will be a tailgate dinner from 6 to 8 p.m.
Olympian commits to Wright State
Julian Greenwell, who helped Columbus East to its first sectional baseball since 1999 this spring, has committed to Wright State.
Greenwell originally committed to Indiana University last fall, but reopened his recruiting after Hoosiers coach Chris Lemonis took the head coaching job at Mississippi State following the 2018 season. Ironically, IU’s new coach, Jeff Mercer, came from Wright State.
As a junior this spring, Greenwell went 3-1 with an 0.93 ERA on the mound. He also batted .293 with two home runs and 16 RBIs.
