Columbus firefighters say the cause of a Sunday fire in a northside home is listed as undetermined.
Firefighters were called to 3303 Northbrook Drive at 3:30 p.m. Sunday about the fire.
Homeowner Lucy Neal, 83, told firefighters she was asleep in the living room when she heard the smoke alarm and saw smoke throughout the one-story three-bedroom frame home.
Neal said that she then walked to a rear hallway where she saw flames in her grandson’s bedroom, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman. Neal’s grandson, Chris King, 32, was not home at the time of the fire, Wilson said.
Neal told investigators that she then left the home and went to the neighbor’s home to call 911. During this time, King, who was at a neighbor’s home when the fire broke out, returned to his residence and attempted to put out the fire with a garden hose.
As King attempted to spray water into the window from the exterior of the residence, he received a minor burn on this arm. He was treated at the scene by Columbus Regional Health Emergency Medical Services, but refused transport to the hospital, Wilson said.
