You can’t find a better story, nor a much more successful concept than the dinner theater format that so many local residents have perfected at Willow Leaves of Hope, if you catch the production of “The Miracle Worker” at 6 p.m. Sunday at 326 Jackson St. in Hope. First-time director Connie Kiviniemi-Baylor has gushed over lead actress Julia Blair’s portrayal of teacher Anne Sullivan, and nearly every member of the cast and crew. Tickets: $25, includes the show and full meal and salad bar, drink and dessert. Information: 812-546-0640.

The Uncommon Cause annual arts fundraiser earned high marks from attendees last year who liked the more casual atmosphere, and a mix-and-mingle-while-you-eat format. This year’s event, set from 7 to 11 p.m. Aug. 25 at Harrison Lake Country Club, at 588 Country Club Road, will include all of that plus a live auction, a silent auction, live music from classic rock band Alan Kaye and The Toons and noted textile artist Daren Redman, who will help supporters make silk scarves and pocket squares. Tickets: $100 per person (with discounts for Columbus Young Professionals), available at artsincolumbus.org. Information: artsincolumbus.org (click on Uncommon Cause at the top) and the Facebook page for the Columbus Area Arts Council.

Go figure. Meteorologist Randy Ollis was born on National Weather Day. The forecaster for WISH-TV for 40 years in Indianapolis has been a popular speaker in Columbus for a long time for everything from civic to church groups. He’ll talk about the weather in more than just polite conversational tones during a free presentation at 2 p.m. Friday at Mill Race Center, 900 Lindsey St. in Columbus. Free popcorn and lemonade will be served. Information: 812-376-9241.
