When you think of Brown County, “blues” might not come to mind.
But this weekend, some of the best blues bands and soloists in the region will be competing in Nashville for a chance to advance to the International Blues Challenge.
The South Central Indiana Blues Challenge 2018, Boogie to Beale, will start at 2 p.m. Aug. 19 at Mike’s Dance Barn, 2277 State Road 46 West.
The all-day contest includes bands, solo and duo acts vying to win a cash prize and eligibility to enter the 2019 international contest.
Each act is judged in several categories, which include blues content, vocal talent, stage presence and originality. One winning act from each category will be eligible to enter the IBC, the nation’s biggest and most respected showcase for blues musicians seeking to expand their careers.
Fun fact: The South Central Indiana Blues Society actually is headquartered in Nashville.
Founded in 2015, its mission is to educate the public on the history and future of the blues, to support and promote local artists, and to preserve the blues as an American art form.
