Jets cruise to victory
HOPE — Hauser had little trouble Thursday night in rolling to a 25-9, 25-6, 25-11 win against Jac-Cen-Del.
Kylie Lock recorded seven kills, 12 digs and give aces, and Hannah Johnson had seven kills and five aces to lead the Jets (2-0). Aunaka Wasil notched 21 assists, Shelby Fugate had one block and Melanie Taylor and Mary Branum each served five aces.
Also for Hauser, Taylor and Shelby Fugate each contributed nine digs. Abby Branum added four assists.
Cougars sweep Lancers
GREENSBURG — South Decatur picked up its first win of the season, a 25-17, 25-20, 25-23 Mid-Hoosier Conference triumph against Edinburgh.
Whitnye Burton led the Cougars (1-1, 1-0) with nine assists and four aces. Lana Bell pounded 13 kills, Sam Goodfellow had one solo and two assist blocks and Brook Somers recorded seven digs.
The Lancers fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the MHC.
Eagles win in five
NASHVILLE — Bedford North Lawrence rallied from a two-set deficit to force a fifth set, but Brown County recovered to pull out a 25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 19-25, 15-5 season-opening victory.
The Eagles led 6-5 in the final set when they earned a sideout. Abigail Hollander then served the final eight points to finish off the match.
Panthers fall to Floyd
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County opened its Hoosier Hills Conference schedule with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-19 loss to Floyd Central.
Marley Stearns led the Panthers (0-2, 0-1) with eight kills and eight blocks. Karlee Madinger recorded 11 assists and an ace, Hanah Bertram notched 12 digs and Abi Vogel served an ace.

Jennings boys win
SEYMOUR — The Jennings County boys opened its season by winning the Seymour Invitational. The Panthers scored 22 points to 42 for runner-up Austin.
Jennings’ Alex Hendrix won the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) race in 17 minutes, 49 seconds. Carter Leak finished second in 18:11, while Lane Elsner took fifth (18:32), Gavin Hendrix sixth (18:37) and Jason Gasper seventh (19:00).
Seymour won the girls meet with 21 points to 49 for the Panthers. Emma Morrison led Jennings with a second-place finish in 22:08, while Kaylee Ebinger took sixth in 24:11 and Ashley Heindel was 10th in 24:52.

Columbus Christian falls
ANDERSON — Columbus Christian opened its season with a 6-1 loss at Liberty Christian.
C.J. Reed scored on a penalty kick for the Crusaders, who trailed 5-1 at halftime. Garrett Spurgeon recorded 22 saves.
Owls topple Eagles
SEYMOUR — Brown County had a rough season opener, falling 14-1 at Seymour.
Caleb Yeager scored on a penalty kick for the Eagles, who were outshot 38-4. Jake Huddleston recorded 24 saves.
GCA tops Trinity
SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran opened its season with a 9-4 loss to Greenwood Christian Academy.
Ricky Colon Castro scored two goals for Trinity, and A.J. Goecker and Trent Shoemaker each added one. Sawyer Doggett, Josiah Foster and Connor Sims had assists.
Greenwood Christian outshot Trinity 25-17.
