North Vernon’s Block Party is back by popular demand.
The free event is 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday outdoors in the Stellar Plaza, downtown.
“This is the second year Hippies Music and Events have done the Block Party. We are doing it because a lot of people said they enjoyed it last year, and the city asked us to do it again,” said organizer David Bishop, of Hippies Music and Events.
“It seems like North Vernon city people are doing more events so everyone can have some fun. That’s good,” he added.

Bishop said a lot of great music is planned that everyone can enjoy.
“This is a real laid-back family fun event, and we hope everyone will come,” he said.
The musical lineup will include Rude Mood, a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band.
Bishop’s own group, the Spare Change Band, will play but Rude Mood will headline the event, the organizer said.
Other bands slated to play include Hewitt and Fink, and Tracy Thompson with Elaine Basham.
“All the bands are known to be good bands, but I think you will see the Rude Mood is something to see and hear,” Bishop said.
Hippies Music and Events assembled Rude Mood from exceptional individual musicians across the country, the organizer added.
“This is a good opportunity to see them now, while you can,” Bishop said.
Woods Stage Lighting will also provide a light show synchronized with music, at about 8:30 p.m.
A beer garden for adults 21 and older and southwestern foods restaurant Chubby Churros will set up shop on the Plaza.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.
“What can I say? We are just some really, really fun people down here and I hope a lot of people come and share in the fun,” North Vernon Mayor Mike Ochs said.
