Police arrest local man accused of fleeing on bicycle

Staff Reports

A local man was arrested after he was accused of fleeing from Columbus Police Department officers on a stolen bicycle.

Officer Travis Harbaugh saw Thomas D. Crouch, 47, of 2401 Indiana Ave., riding a bicycle near Cherry Street and Indiana Avenue at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Harbaugh confirmed a warrant for Crouch’s arrest and attempted to stop him, but Crouch refused to stop and attempted to flee on the bicycle. After a short pursuit, Crouch was caught by officers in the 600 block of Parkway Drive, Harris said.

Officers checked the serial number on the bicycle Crouch was riding and determined it was stolen from a Columbus resident earlier this month, Harris said.

Crouch was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of stolen property, resisting law enforcement and the warrant, jail officials said.

He was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $10,416 bond.
