SCOTTSBURG
Claudis W. Akin, 83, of Scottsburg formerly of Columbus, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Friday August 24, 2018 at his home.
Claudis was born March 7, 1935 in Adair County, Kentucky, the son of Claudis Roy and Helen Josephine Wilson Akin.
He married Betty Louise Savage on August 27, 1955. She preceded him in death on December 24, 1975. He then married Kathleen Davidson on October 21, 1991, whom survives.
Claudis attended 6th Street General Baptist Church as well as Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church. He was previously employed by Hamilton-Cosco, retiring from Cummin’s Engine Company after 30 years of service.
The funeral will be at 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday August 28, 2018 at Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Revs. Kenneth Lee and Don Hacker officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the 6th Street General Baptist Church or to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
Survivors include his wife Katheleen; children Tim (Laura Purdy) Akin of Columbus, Judy (Kenneth) Lee of Columbus, Connie (Mark) Perry of Virginia, Jack (Amanda) Davidson of Scottsburg, Marilyn Stafford of Columbus, and Shelia Roberts of North Vernon; grandchildren Luci Akin, Emilee Davidson, Chelse Perry, Gabby Perry, Lavon Redlin, Brenda Schoeberl, Evan Davidson, Ethan Davidson, and Jackson Taylor; great-grandchildren Clarence Mark Pierce IV, Zaidyn Purdy, and Elijah Purdy; a brother Harold Wallace (Alice Faye) Akin of Evansville, and a sister Ida Almarine (Ollie) Jessie of Evansville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Betty; brothers Nolan Thomas Akin and Joseph Miller Akin; sisters Ronella Faye Akin, Juanita Sue Baker, and Theora Margaret Bunch.
