The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department is seeking tips from the public about identifying who damaged several mailboxes in the area of 7500 N. County Road 330W last night.
Mailboxes are federal property and federal law makes it a crime to vandalize them or to deface or destroy any mail deposited in them.
Damaging mailboxes carries a penalty of up to three years in prison for each act of vandalism and a possible $250,000 fine, according to the sheriff’s department.
Anyone with information about the mailbox vandalism is asked to call the sheriff department at 812-379-1650 or the Tip Line at 812-379-1712 where information may be left anonymously. Tips may also be emailed to [email protected].
