Book Buddies program seeking volunteers

Book Buddies needs volunteers for its one-on-one reading program that pairs volunteers with second and third graders reading below grade level in Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.

Volunteers work with two students for an hour a week, Monday through Thursday, and help is needed at all BCSC elementary schools.

Requirements include filling out an enrollment form, attending a training session and undergoing a free background check.

Cheerleading tryouts set at CSA Lincoln

Cheerleading tryouts are this week for fifth- and sixth-grade students at Columbus Signature Academy Lincoln Campus.

The tryouts will be held today, Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at CSA Lincoln, 750 Fifth St. Students are required to attend all three sessions and must have a physical on file with the school.

Reference forms will be required and can be obtained at the school. For more information, call 812-376-4447.

Basketball open gym sessions set at Northside

Northside Middle School will have open gym sessions for seventh- and eighth-grade boys who are interested in trying out for basketball this year.

Sessions will be held today and Sept. 26 after school until 4:30 p.m. at Northside, while another open gym session is planned from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Oct. 3. Athletes who are in fall sports are not permitted, according to the school.
