Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department are searching for a missing man whose canoe was found overturned and submerged under a log in the Driftwood River.

The man, wearing dark-colored swimming trunks, was reported missing sometime after 4 p.m., at the same time when DNR and other firefighters were doing a water rescue for kayakers at the junction of the Driftwood and Blue rivers, said DNR officer Jet Quillen.

Those individuals made it to shore and were rescued by firefighters, Quillen said.

The search has now moved to Heflin Park near Edinburgh where DNR is beginning a water search with sonar looking for the man.

Four boats are assisting in the search with first- response teams from multiple agencies.
