Donald E. “Smokey” Overholser

COLUMBUS

Donald E. “Smokey” Overholser Jr., 76, of Columbus, passed from this life at 6:58 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at I.U. Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis.

Smokey retired from Allison Transmission in 2005 as parts coordinator where he had served for 38 years.

He was a member of Ogilville United Methodist Church and Southwest Volunteer Fire Department.

Smokey was born July 5, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Donald E. Overholser Sr. and Myla June Thompson Overholser.

He married Kathy E. Stingley on December 11, 1993. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2006.

He later married Sherry Stewart on August 29, 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Overholser; a daughter, Beth Overholser of Waldron; brother, Richard (Debbie) Overholser of Anderson, and his sister, Charlene (Fred) Tingle of Avon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathy; and a brother, Jack Overholser.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with the Rev. Paul Huntsman officiating.

Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to time of service Thursday.

Honor guard will be presented by the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department and Columbus Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Burial will be at Sweeney Cemetery in Columbus.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ogilville United Methodist Church or Southwest Volunteer Fire Department.
