COLUMBUS
Kenneth L. Welkie, 102, of Columbus and formerly of Wanatah, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
He was born August 18, 1916 in Wanatah to Gust and Grace (Marks) Welkie.
Ken was a lifetime farmer, farming the Century Welkie Family Farm until his retirement.
He enjoyed traveling, working outside, flowers and gardening, and working with wicker.
Ken was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church, Wanatah and a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Columbus.
On January 31, 1942, Ken married Ruth L. Brown who survives along with their children, Carol (Dwight) Hayes of Columbus, Norman (Joyce) Welkie of St. George, Utah, and Christine (Kevin) Dombkowski of Oswego, Illinois; grandchildren, Gregory (Krista) Hayes, Julie (Michael) Bushong, Dawn Welkie and Laura Dombkowski; great-grandchildren, Joshua Hayes, Shawn VanRheenan, Christopher (Jaclyn) Hayes, Jamie (Thomas) VanRenterghem, Nicholas Welkie and Kalee Hayes; step-great-grandchildren, John and Matthew Bedel and Chastity Bushong; and great-great grandchildren, Dakota Hayes, Layton VanRenterghem, Addyson Hayes and Caroline VanRenterghem. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold, Willard and Bernell.
Visitation will be Monday, September 24, 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m. CST at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main St., Wanatah, with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Wanatah.
