HOPE
James “Jimmy” Johnson-Bey, 85, slipped away quietly in the evening, on Thursday, September 20, 2018.
He was born September 7, 1933, in Columbus, to James Johnson-Bey Sr. and Harriet (Frazier) Johnson-Bey.
He was obligated in marriage to Nadine Jenkins-Bey, his soul mate, on October 8, 1971, and they would have celebrated their 47th anniversary this coming October.
He was a dedicated member of the Moorish Science Temple of America, Inc. and the Mufti Corp of the MSTA.
He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in South Korea in 1955.
He attended Columbus High School and Petersville Elementary School where he played center on the basketball team.
He retired from Reliance Electric Company (a.k.a. Rockwell Automotive) in 1995 after 33 years of service.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Nadine Johnson-Bey; children, Elliott and Jeremy Johnson-Bey of Hope, Kalvyn Johnson-Bey of North Vernon, Anne Johnson-Bey and Kemyana Jones-Bey, both of Indianapolis; siblings, Reuben Johnson-Bey of Chicago, Delores Burks-Bey, Elihu (Lee Drella) Johnson-Bey, Ishmel Johnson-Bey, Sarah (William) Jones-Bey, all of Hope, and Samuel Johnson-Bey (Angie Mings) of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Harriet-Johnson-Bey; a sister, Francis Johnson-Bey, brother, David Johnson-Bey, and a grandson, Xavier Scrogham.
The viewing will be held at 1 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Temple No. 55, located at 4182 N. County Road 700E, Hope.
