Columbus woman injured jumping from burning vehicle

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus woman who jumped from a moving, burning vehicle was transported by Lifeline helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a vehicle fire with injury on southbound U.S. 31, south of County Road 300E, at about 10:29 a.m. today.

The driver, Robert A. Shaw II, saw smoke coming from the interior of his vehicle. As he slowed to stop, his passenger, Karlee Katelynn Hurt, 22, jumped from the vehicle while it was still moving at about 30 mph.

She was treated at the scene before being transported to a hospital. Her condition is unknown, Jackson said.

The vehicle was a total loss, Jackson said.
