Knights top Panthers

AURORA — Jennings County cut a 28-0 at halftime deficit to 28-10 Friday night, but South Dearborn pulled away for a 48-16 win in a Class 4A first-round sectional battle.

Quarterback Lance Bailey scored on a 1-yard run, and Brooks Wathen fan 4 yards for a touchdown for the Panthers (2-8). Dylan Boswell kicked a school-record 48-yard field goal.

“We played hard all night,” Jennings coach Rick Zimmerman said. “(South Dearborn is) really good. They have a lot of kids that have started for two or three years, and they are really big and really strong.”

Zimmerman had announced in the spring that this would be his last season coaching. He coached for 33 years, including 17 years in two stints at Jennings.

Cougars fall to Saints

INDIANAPOLIS — Class A No. 10 Indianapolis Lutheran was too much for South Decatur Friday in a 42-12 first-round sectional victory.

Gage Mings ran 80 yards for a touchdown, and Jacobi Shook scored on a 1-yard run for the Cougars (3-7). Shook also recovered a fumble, and Kenny Meadows led South Decatur on the ground with 44 yards on 13 carries.

“We have some big kids, but they have some big kids that are athletic,” South Decatur coach Garry Sauley said. “They were a little faster than us and able to get around us, and they were in our backfield most of the time. We had our moments, but we just couldn’t sustain anything.”
