Park board raises Commons rental fees

Rental fee increases at The Commons starting in 2020 have been approved by the Columbus Park Board.

The pricing changes will result in rental rates for daytime events going up by $50 to $150.

All-day bookings are going up by $350 for non-profit entities, while the cost charged to for-profits using the facility will increase $250 to $300 depending on the day of the week.

The Commons had not raised its fees since the building opened seven years ago, said Pam Harrell, director of business services for the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department.

Harrell said she could not predict how much additional revenue could be generated until the calendar gets booked. Bookings for the 2020 calendar year will open starting Dec. 1, Harrell said.

Fees for hockey in three leagues — children ages 8 and under, ages 8-10 and ages 10 to 13 — went up by $10 to $220 for a full season, while the cost for a half-season will remain $120, she said.

The park board evaluates its fees twice a year, Harrell said.
