INDIANAPOLIS

Janice “Jan” Gillespie, 62, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

She was born to the late Raymond and Mary Seeley in Columbus, Indiana.

Jan attended Columbus High School before attending St. Mary of the Woods.

Jan committed close to 30 years of service at Vectren Energy before retiring. She then spent a short stent at American Senior Communities before moving on to volunteer work and continued support of her family from home.

Jan became active in many volunteer activities including work at Holy Cross Lutheran School and mentoring with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana. Additionally, after her initial diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer she became engaged with Indy Surviveoars, the only breast cancer dragon boat team in Indiana. Jan found strength and support through the team and created many lasting friendships.

Jan had a love for music which she shared with her son, Brent, and spent many enjoyable days camping with him in his youth.

She had a deep love for the beach and the ocean which she shared with her beloved husband, Todd, along with boating on the Geist in their free time. Her other loves were yoga, her dog Bond, finding the perfect outfit, and her Mini.

Jan had a heart for God and was a light for all who met her, she will forever be missed.

Jan is survived by her loving husband, Todd Gillespie; children, Brent Chandler and Meghan Gillespie; and brothers, David Seeley and Rick Seeley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, and Indy Surviveoars, PO Box 502984, Indianapolis 46250, in honor of Jan Gillespie.

Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Geist, 7855 Cork Rd, Indianapolis, on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Memorial services will be held at St. Peters Lutheran Church at 719 5th St., Columbus, Indiana, November 1, 2018 at 11am.
