FREETOWN
Rev. Leonard R. Fiene, 88, of Freetown, Indiana, passed away at 2:55 p.m. Friday, October, 26, 2018 at the Lutheran Community Home in Seymour, Indiana.
Leonard, the eldest child of the late William and Eleanor (Karnstedt) Fiene was born on the family farm in Addison, Illinois on April 27, 1930.
Leonard served as pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church, East Gary (Lake Station), Indiana from 1958-1962, St. James Lutheran Church in Marion, Indiana from 1962-1985, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lake City, Florida from 1985-1995. In retirement, he served as pastor of mission churches Harvest Lutheran Church in Mooresville, Indiana, Epiphany Lutheran Church in New Salsbury, Indiana and Peace Lutheran Church in Seymour, Indiana. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Clifty in Columbus, Indiana.
Leonard married Shirley Mae Wolf on July 5, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Addison, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Sheila R. Fiene (1958).
Leonard is survived by his wife and four children: Cheryl L. Lewis of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bradley A. Fiene (Mary) of Lake City, Florida, Curtis L. Fiene of Freetown, Indiana and Darrel J. Fiene (Lori) of Marion, Indiana. They were blessed with twelve grandchildren: Marissa (Jonas) Cantrell, Benjamin Lewis (Jody VonWagner), Neil (Autumn) Lewis, Julene Fiene, Monica (Johnny) Benfield, Patricia (Rich) Love, Janet (Marsy) Sierra, Daniel (Callie) Brickert, Bradley Jr. (Ashley) Fiene, Joseph Fiene, Kimberly Fiene, and Toran Fiene. They enjoyed their great-grandchildren: Kayla Cantrell, Elizabeth Cantrell, Emily Lewis, Hailey Lewis, Logan Lewis, Joanna Lewis, Declan Lewis, Lane Humes, MacKinzie Benfield, Jayden Benfield, Kyle Redd, Kaydence Davis, Melody Sierra, Michael Sierra, Denver Brickert, Melanie Fiene, Kingston Fiene, and Archer Brickert.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church-Clifty in Columbus, Indiana with the Rev. Douglas Bauman officiating at 11 a.m. Saturday, November. 3, 2018. Visitation will take place at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
Leonard will be laid to rest, following the service, in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to share a meal at the church, following the service.
