Students in the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp. will have a planned eLearning day on Thursday.
The first of two eLearning days planned for the district this school year, it will allow students to complete lessons from home that are uploaded on a learning management system, Superintendent Shawn Price said.
Teachers will use the day for staff professional development and will have regular office hours to answer students’ questions.
Students had a practice eLearning day at school during the 2017-18 school year, when each class had lessons uploaded to the learning management system. Another practice eLearning day was recently held, Price said.
All students in grades K-12 have Apple iPads and will be able to work on lessons that have been uploaded to the learning management system. The two designated eLearning days were approved by the Indiana Department of Education.
The district has designated a window of time to allow students to complete their assignments, said Alison Wold, director of eLearning for the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp. That varies by grade level, but will go until Monday, she said. The district will have after-hours assistance to help students on Friday, while that assistance will be offered to students at the elementary school level on Monday.
Students will informed in advance what their teachers’ office hours are, Wold said. Another eLearning day is planned for Feb. 7.
