Roger Hacker, 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 in Franklin. He was a former resident of Columbus and a former longtime resident of Franklin.
He was born on October 16, 1932 in Columbus, the son of the late Ray and Marjorie (Hughes) Hacker. Roger was the last of eight siblings.
He married Joan (Mikesell) Hacker. She preceded him in passing in 2015.
He is survived by their six children, Mike (Cyndi) Hacker, Sandy (Robert) Wiseman, Vincent Hacker, Marsha (Randy) Lewis, Kirk (Lori) Hacker and Doug (Donna) Hacker. Also surviving are grandchildren, Brooke (Brad) Vogelsmeier, Derek Hacker, Elaine Hacker, Melissa Baker and Patrick Hacker; and great-grandchildren, Kayden and Dakota.
Roger attended Columbus High School.
He began his career as a journeyman meatcutter. He then worked as the director of the Franklin Boys Club which gave him such pride and joy, being able to affect so many young people’s lives. He later was employed as the superintendent of the Franklin Parks Department.
He received the Outstanding Man of the Year award in Franklin in the later 1960s.
After retirement, Roger worked as a school bus driver for the Bartholomew County School Corporation.
He was a 50-plus year member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 107, F&AM and was a member of the Franklin Chapter No. 439, Order of Eastern Star. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and loved watching Tony Stewart.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton St., (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to time of service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Johnson County, 3827 N. Graham Road, Franklin, IN 46131.
