Fourth quarter rally falls short for Crusaders

Columbus Christian made a huge charge in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too much to overcome in a 43-38 girls basketball loss to Dugger Union on Friday.

“Mentally, the girls seemed to be a bit off today and not on the game,” said Columbus Christian coach Kay Jones. “They came out and played hard in the second half, but I think in the first half, the other team was physical. Our team is still learning to get physical and I think that may have frustrated our team. In the second half, they were able to come out and score.”

The Bulldogs (4-1) lead 14-8 after the first quarter and increased the lead into double digits 22-12 at the half.

The Crusaders (3-3) got a basket and two free throws from Ellie Ridder to cut the Bulldog lead to 22-16. After Dugger Union increase the lead to 27-16, the Crusaders went on a 5-2 run to make it 29-21, The Bulldogs, however scored the final eight points of the quarter to lead 37-21 heading into the fourth quarter.
