Two drivers were injured after a head-on collision on 25th Street at Bonnell Road east of Columbus.
Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the crash at 8:49 a.m. Thursday, deputies said.
A blue Taurus — driven by Michelle L. Townsend, 48, of Westport — was traveling on 25th Street approaching Bonnell Road when Townsend saw a white truck heading directly toward her vehicle in the westbound lane, deputies said.
The driver of the truck — David E. Wright, 57, of Columbus — told deputies he believed he lost control of his vehicle after hitting black ice on the bridge, deputies said.
Wright’s truck hit the south guardrail, propelling it into the Townsend’s car, deputies said.
Townsend was trapped in her vehicle after the accident and extricated by Columbus firefighters before being transported by helicopter to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was listed in stable condition Thursday afternoon, according to the hospital.
Wright was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital by ambulance, where he treated and released, hospital officials said.
Deputies said 25th Street, at the bridge, was closed for about an hour while the accident scene was cleared.
