HOPE — Two back-to-back holiday events this weekend in Hope have the potential to invigorate the spirit of Christmas.
A church parsonage and a historic schoolhouse will be featured during Friday’s annual Christmas Homes Tour. Sponsored by the Yellow Trail Museum, the self-guided tours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.
On Saturday, several vendors will participate in a holiday shopping event at the Hope Moravian Church, 202 Main St. Hope. The 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. event will raise money to fight cancer, organizers said.

The parsonage serving as the home of Hope United Methodist Church minister Ed Cottrell and his wife, Lyla, will be one of five locations on Friday’s Christmas Homes Tour.
The minister’s wife is planning to use her extensive doll collection as part of the holiday decor, Yellow Trail spokeswoman Barb Johnson said.
Meanwhile, the church sanctuary at 429 Washington St. will be displaying several different styles of nativity scenes brought in by congregation members, Johnson said.
The restored Simmons School on the Hauser-Hope Elementary campus is also part of this year’s tour. Although not a residence, a number of reenactments with holiday themes will be performed for those who visit the one-room schoolhouse between the baseball and track facilities.
Homeowners who have agreed to be on this year’s Christmas Homes Tour are:
Kim Miller
Jonna Shepherd
Andy and Missy Dempsey
Tickets for the Christmas Home Tour are now available for $10 each at Willow Leaves of Hope, 326 Jackson St., and the Yellow Trail Museum, 644 Main St. They will also be available at the museum the night of the tour, starting at 5 p.m.
Addresses and maps for the self-guided tours will be provided. Those who turn in their tickets at the tour’s last stop will be eligible for a drawing to win a gift certificate from Willow Leaves for food, merchandise or entertainment, Johnson said.
Shopping to fight cancer
More than two dozen vendors will be at the Hope Moravian Church for the Relay for Life Holiday Shopping event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, spokesperson Tara Manley said.
There will be a mix of direct sales companies and local craftspeople participating with merchandise from Perfectly Posh, Scentsy, LulaRoe, Paparazzi Jewelry, 31 Bags, Holly’s Hobbies, Aprons from the Heartland, Wolfcreek Country Woodworks, Simple Man Brand and Sew Vivid Designs.
The Hope Relay for Life’s Team Tanya will receive money from the registration fees paid by the vendors to participate in the drop-in shopping event.
Manley has been active in raising money to fight cancer since the disease claimed the life of her 36-year-old sister, Tanya Covert Frazee, in 2013.
From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, there will be a silent auction going on at the event, with all proceeds going to fight the disease, Manley said.
Last year, 25 items were sold in the silent auction that included gift baskets, Christmas items, vendor merchandise and a variety of collectables, Manley said.
Money to help fight for a cancer cure, raise awareness and help those battling cancer will also be raised from the sale of food during the event, she said.
