Columbus North found itself trailing 16-13 early in the second quarter Tuesday night until a big run changed the course of the game.
The Bull Dogs went on a 12-0 run in the middle of the second quarter that was capped off with two big 3-pointers from Sierra Norman. The momentum carried over to the second half, giving North a 59-29 girls basketball win.
“We just needed to run what we usually run,” Norman said of the second-quarter rally. “We executed our high-low play and got a lot of shots off the opposite side.”
In the first quarter, the Bull Dogs (5-3) found themselves playing from behind when the Woodmen (2-7) hit a couple of 3-pointers to jump out to a 9-4 lead. A couple of baskets from Kylah Lawson cut the lead to 9-8.

Greenwood’s Quinn Kelly stopped the quick spurt with a bucket to make it 11-8. North then finished the first quarter on a 5-0 run, with Norman hitting her first of three triples right before the buzzer to make it 13-11.
A 3-pointer from Anna Prichett gave the Woodmen a 14-13 lead, and a basket from Sarah DeCastro extended the lead to 16-13, setting up the Bull Dog rally. Following the spurt, North found themselves ahead 25-16, and it led 27-19 at halftime.
After Greenwood scored the first basket of the third quarter, the Bull Dogs controlled the rest of the quarter by going on an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 38-21 and eventually ending the Woodmen chances at rallying in the fourth quarter.
It was balanced scoring across the board for North. Annie Anderson, Lawson and Alexa McKinley all finished with 10 points.
Greenwood was led by Pritchett, who finished with seven points.
“I believe it helped certain people that were making shots gain more confidence to shoot on Thursday (against East Central),” said McKinley. “We’re going to need everyone to score from different positions.”
The Bull Dogs’ has a big challenge ahead against the Trojans, who will be coming into Thursday with a 6-3 record.
“We’re going to have to be positive and not get down on ourselves,” Lawson said. “We have to go out there and work hard like we normally do. We have to finish plays, pass the ball around and communicate.”
