Emily Ann Shireman, 93, of Hartsville, passed from this life at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Morning Breeze Health Campus, Greensburg. Mrs. Shireman was born May 29, 1925, in Columbus, the daughter of Homer and Gertrude Arnholt.

She was united in marriage to Ray H. Shireman on August 11, 1946, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Columbus, Indiana. They were married for 72 amazing years.

Emily was born on a dairy farm west of Columbus where her love for agriculture grew. Emily was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where she attended school as a child. She graduated from Columbus North High School.

She later went on to meet the love of her life, Ray. After marrying they moved to a farm in Decatur County, in the Hartsville area. Together they raised five children, David (Brenda) Shireman, Robert (Jan) Shireman, Alan (Dalene) Shireman, Lynn (MJ) Shireman and Annette (Larry) Geis. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her passion for farming was instilled in the lives of her children and her involvement in many agricultural related hobbies.

She was well known as the “doll lady” repairing and giving talks on the value and care of all types of doll babies. She also started “Shireman Collectibles” where she sold Effanbee dolls and toys.

She was an active member of Hi-Nabor Extension Homemakers, where as a member she became an exchange homemaker and visited Iceland with her traveling partner, Angelina Hubbard (a doll). When she returned, she traveled the state of Indiana sharing her Iceland adventures.

Emily was a long-standing member of the following organizations: St. Peter’s Ladies Sewing Circle, Literary Club, the Decatur County Fair Board, Decatur County Extension Board, Decatur County Republican party, the Give-Un-Take Garden Club and so many more. She also received the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash.

She is also survived by her brother, Ken (Berniece) Arnholt. Her sister, Mary Jane (Evans) Hoeltke, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
