The thought of a child without a permanent, loving family and home, possibly spending years in foster care, is a sad one.
That’s why National Adoption Day, on Nov. 21, is a special and happy day.
Courtrooms in Bartholomew and other Hoosier counties open their doors to the media to document a joyous day, when children are approved for their forever homes.
About 12 were adopted in Bartholomew County this year. Nearby Flat, Rock-Hawkcreek School Corp. Superintendent Shawn Price and his family adopted four young girls in a ceremony in Shelby County.

The Columbus event featured a photo booth for the children; dozens of donated books for them to enjoy; and smiles, hugs and tears of joy by the children, family members and friends.
There’s good reason for Adoption Day to be celebrated. Children are receiving their permanent homes, making their lives and their new families’ lives richer and better. The children are going to stable homes that can provide the love, guidance and structure they need for their development.
The special day each year is one example of why adoption has many benefits, is a good option for many adults wanting children and is a choice worth considering.
