Despite having only 20 swimmers, Club Olympia finished 12th out of 24 teams from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio in last weekend’s FAST Santa Claus Invitational at Fishers High School.
Nalanie Cortez scored 183 points to win the High Point Award for 13-14-year-old girls. Brady Beyer scored 175 points to place second in high-point scoring in the 13-14 boys division.
Cortez won the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle events, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley (IM). She also finished third in the 400 IM and fourth in the 100 backstroke.
Beyer placed first in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 100 Butterfly; second in the 400 IM, 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly and fourth in the 100 backstroke. His 100 breaststroke time ranks him 10th, and his 200 breaststroke time ranks him third in the nation for 13 year olds.

Misha Machavariani was the highest scoring 11-year-old in the 11-12 boys age group, finishing in 6th overall in the high-point award rankings. Machavariani scored 139 points by placing second in the 1,650 freestyle; fourth in the 100 breaststroke; fifth in the 50 butterfly; sixth in the 200 freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 100 butterfly; seventh in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and ninth in the 200 IM. His 1,650 freestyle time currently ranks him 14th in the nation for 11-year-old boys.
Evan Patterson finished in sixth in high-point scoring in the open events with 130 points, placing second in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly, fourth in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle, fifth in the 500 freestyle, sixth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 backstroke.
Rookie Joshua Pendleton scored 94 points in the 8-and-under boys in just two days of the three-day competition. Pendleton was third in the 100 freestyle; fourth in the 25 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly; seventh in the 25 breaststroke, and 21st in the 10-and-under 200 freestyle (second-fastest 8-and-under swimmer).
Tony Machavariani, 6, scored 41 points in the 8-and-under boys competition in just one session, placing ninth in the 50 backstroke, 11th in the 25 freestyle, 12th in the 100 freestyle and 16th in the 25 breaststroke. He also was 57th in the 10-and-under 50 freestyle in a time that was the fastest for any 6-and-under the next day in the 8-and-under race.
Daniella Preston scored 34 points in the 11-12 girls events, placing 10th in the 100 backstroke, 11th in the 50 backstroke, 17th in the 500 freestyle, 18th in the 100 butterfly, 19th in the 200 freestyle and 20th in the 200 IM.
Pratt Badve scored 22 points in the 13-14 boys by finishing in ninth in the 200 breaststroke, 16th in the 200 backstroke and 19th in the 400 IM. Badve was on track to score more, but had to scratch out of finals to participate in the holiday parade for a grade in his band class. He was in 14th in the 100 breaststroke and 19th in the 100 backstroke after the prelims that morning.
Arjun Bhadoria scored points by finishing in 17th in the 13-14 boys 100 butterfly and 19th in the 400 IM. Jahnavi Venugopal, 8, scored by placing 17th in the 8-and-under girls 25 breaststroke.
Aidan Castillo, 12, scored in the 11-12 boys 200 freestyle by placing 19th. Castillo also achieved his personal-best times in every event in which he swam.
Cassidy Furnish swimming unattached during the transfer period, scored 11 points in the 10-and-under girls division by placing 13th in the 50 breaststroke and 18th in the 200 freestyle. Furnish also achieved best times in all of her races.
Also swimming in the meet for Club Olympia were Advika Badve, Zoie Chandelkar, Nandini Kondhare, Sanaa Kulkarni, Shreyan Kulkarni, Lovely Panda, Brooklyn Pendleton, Matt Stuckwisch and Jay Venugopal. Connelly Furnish and Grier Lane swam unattached.
BASKETBALL
Central wins 2 of 3 games
Central won two of three games last week, beating Seymour 48-34 on Monday, falling at Greensburg 54-48 on Tuesday and beating Madison 58-35 on Wednesday.
Connor Hensley led the Chargers (5-2) with 14 points against Seymour, 26 against Greensburg and 17 against Madison. Phillip McKinley added 10 against Seymour, and Ethan Silcox had 10 against Madison.
Panther teams stay perfect
Jennings County’s seventh- and eighth-grade boys White teams remained unbeaten Monday with wins against Scottsburg.
Carter Kent scored 33 points to lead the Panther seventh-graders (9-0) to a 50-46 victory. The eighth-graders (10-0) won 41-30 behind 13 points from Keegan Manowitz.
The Jennings eighth-grade boys Blue team fell to Southwestern (Hanover) 39-32 on Thursday. Skylar Lewis scored 13 points, and Curtis Thompson added 10.
The Panther seventh-grade boys Blue squad lost to Southeestern 48-33. Raven Biddle led Jennings with 10 points.
PRO WRESTLING
HPW raises $1,250 at show
Hoosier Pro Wrestling raised $1,250 in toys, bikes, donations and raffle at its Cheer Fund Toy Drive 2 event at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Scarecrow pinned Ace Jackson to win the HPW Cruiserweight belt. Lightning Bolt with Miss Courtney pinned Corvis.
Omega G beat Duke The Nuke in a battle in and out of the ring. Fireball with Damien Saint pinned Buck Sexton.
Dynamite Dillen pinned Jason Levi with Damien Saint and Aly Targett. Flash Flanagan beat Dewey Brown, and Butcher Manson beat Kenny Kage.
HPW starts its 21st year in Columbus on Jan. 6.
