Letter: Writer’s facts not fair comparisons

Doug Logan cherry-picks facts and compares apples to oranges in his letter. He laments the repealing of the individual mandate portion of Obamacare and compares it to state law requiring car insurance. This isn’t a fair comparison, because owning and driving a car is completely voluntary. Therefore, a person could avoid buying car insurance. We do not have that same freedom of choice when it comes to our bodies, so we had no way to avoid the penalty/tax forcibly imposed on us by Obamacare. Incidentally, then-candidate Donald Trump first publicly stated his support for protecting those with pre-existing conditions in February 2017. Nothing has changed.

Democrats will not even address the mess at the border. One caravan migrant, an MS-13 gang member, was arrested this past week. There are others who admit to having being convicted of felonies. They consider their right, earned or not, to come into the United States at will. President Trump rightly believes the cost of the wall should be at least shared by Mexico. If it was completely up to many Democrats, there would be no border enforcement. President Trump wants a border wall for our security and even offered Democrats a deal that protected DACA, but they rejected it.

Mr. Logan compared Ivanka Trump, a newcomer to politics, to veteran politician Hillary Clinton. Both broke government policy by using their private email to conduct government business. However, Hillary deleted 33,000 of her emails. Ivanka’s total email transactions were only about 100 altogether, and none was deleted. Hillary set up a secret server, unlike Ivanka. Hillary sent or received classified information, unlike Ivanka. No assistant of Ivanka used a hammer to smash and destroy her mobile devices, but that was what happened in the Hillary Clinton camp. Again, comparing apples to oranges.

Why do liberals have such a propensity for promoting half-truths about the Mueller investigation? The original purpose of the probe was to determine if Donald Trump or his campaign staffers colluded with Russia to influence (in his favor) the outcome of the 2016 election. So far, no Americans have been charged with that. Mr. Logan stated that there have been dozens of indictments and plea bargains. True, there have been 32 people and three companies charged. However, 25 of those individuals and all three companies are Russian, and one person is Dutch. One of the other five people indicted had no ties whatsoever to the Trump campaign.

In less than two years in office, President Trump has kept eight campaign promises versus 11 fulfilled by President Obama in his eight years. Mr. Logan referred to “independent judges” being attacked by the president. He is certainly entitled to his opinion, but the facts speak otherwise. There are many examples of liberal judges legislating from the bench, most notably those of the Ninth Circuit. They are far from independent or neutral, and it is a fact that many of their partisan decisions have been ultimately overturned by the Supreme Court.
