Portfolio deadline for scholarship nears

The deadline is approaching for seniors at Columbus High School to submit their portfolio if they intend to apply for the Philip R. Miller Scholarship for the Visual Arts.

Seniors who are planning to apply for the scholarship, which is administered through the Heritage Fund — The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County, have until Friday to submit their portfolio to the East art department. The scholarship is open to graduating seniors at East who are current students in the art department.

Students are required to have completed at least three semesters of art by the end of their senior year and must plan to attend a post-secondary institution to study arts education or the visual arts, according to the Heritage Fund website.

Applications available for Senate page program

Applications are now being accepted for the Indiana Senate page program.

The full-day program offers students in grades 6 to 12 an opportunity to tour the Indiana Statehouse, listen to debates and assist with age-appropriate tasks. Students also have the opportunity to meet with their senator.

The Senate page program will begin in January and runs through mid-April. Pages are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session.

Pages begin their day at 8:30 a.m. and are dismissed at 3:30 p.m. with groups serving together on Wednesday. Serving as a page is considered an excused absence from school.
