COLUMBUS
Herman L. Burton, 77, of Columbus, passed from this life at 9:50 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Burton was born September 17, 1941, in Columbia, Kentucky, the son of Will G. and Gladys Alley Burton. On March 1, 2003, Herman married Roberta Heilman; she survives.
Mr. Burton was a mechanic for the City of Columbus. He retired in 2003 after 35 years of service.
Mr. Burton enjoyed membership at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 741, Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398 and American Legion Post 24.
Mr. Burton was a former stock car racer and he enjoyed golf, playing cards and playing bingo.
Mr. Burton is survived by his wife, Roberta; sons, Tim Mourey and his companion Teresa Beavers of Columbus and Ray Burton of Columbus; step-children, Crystal (Billy) Brooks of Columbus and Tim (Bonnie) Brown of Sunman; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Harold (Jeanie) Burton of Columbus; nephew, Gary (Rita) Burton of Columbus; and a great-nephew, Broc (Whitney) Burton of Columbus.
Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daryl L. Burton; and brother, Troy Burton.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Charles Aigner officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until service time Thursday.
Mr. Burton will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.
