Cousins to be on opposite sides of wrestling rivalry

When Columbus East hosts top-ranked and defending state champion Cathedral in wrestling on Friday night, the McGinley family will have a serious interest.

Tony McGinley is an assistant coach with the Olympians. His cousin Sean McGinley is the head coach at Cathedral. Both are former wrestlers for Cathedral.

Tony McGinley said his family, which owns an Irish Pub on Indianapolis’ east side, is planning on bringing down its party bus full of fans and family members to the match, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Cathedral is 12-0 this season, while the Olympians are 6-1 and ranked No. 6 in the IndianaMat Team Rankings. The Irish are ranked No. 1 in that poll, as well as the power poll, while East is ranked No. 3 in the power poll.

The Olympians have five wrestlers who are ranked in their respective weight classes, including senior Cayden Rooks, who is No. 1 at 138 pounds, and senior Nick South, who is No. 1 at 170. Senior Jacob Bolte is No. 4 at 220, senior Dalton Anderson is No. 4 at 285 and senior Jake Schoenegge is No. 7 at 152.
