Driver stable after running stop sign, hitting barrier

A woman was listed in stable condition at an Indianapolis hospital after a one-vehicle accident on Christmas Eve north of Hope in northeastern Bartholomew County.

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies said the accident happened at 4:06 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Road 9 and East County Road 800N.

A witness told deputies that a vehicle, driven by Betty J. Johnson, whose age and address was unavailable, ran the stop sign on County Road 800N before crossing over State Road 9 and hitting a concrete barrier on the southwest side of the intersection, deputies said.

Johnson was taken by helicopter to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, was listed in stable condition.

Assisting at the scene were the Hope Police Department, Hope Fire Department and the Columbus Fire Department.
