Team effort earns East road victory

Staff Reports

Columbus East boys basketball Brent Chitty declared Friday’s 70-62 road win against a “team effort.”

The Olympians had everyone contribute across the board, including three players scoring in double figures.

In the first quarter, East trailed Batesville 14-11. The Olympians were able to recover and take the lead 31-26.

“Both teams played extremely hard. They came out and had a first quarter lead on us,” Chitty said. “When ended getting the lead back at halftime and ended pulling away in the fourth quarter.”

The Olympians (3-3) had a 51-46 lead after three quarters and had built a big enough lead in the fourth quarter to fend off the Bulldogs’ rally

East was led by Matt Frost, who finished with a team-high 17 points. Tyler Boyer and Drew Johnson finished with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

“It was a hard-fought contest,” Chitty said. “I thought our kids, even the guys off the bench, contributed in every way possible. We played the way we have been playing to win basketball games. I’m pretty pleased with their attitude and effort.”
