Columbus City Council considered allowing a $9 million bond issue to help rebuild The Commons and searched for a person or company to manage the new community facility when it reopened in 2011.

The overnight low was 26 below zero, the coldest reading on record in Columbus, but three shelters opened by Bartholomew County Emergency Management went largely unused.

1969

After heavy rain, the alley leading south onto Sixth Street, west of Washington Street was closed when a basement wall collapsed during the night and the street caved in under the building.
