The new Community Engagement Center, a partnership between Centerstone and the Columbus Township Trustee’s office, 1951 McKinley Ave., will be open extended hours during predicted brutally cold temperatures this weekend.
Today and Monday, when subzero temperatures and wind chills are in the forecast, the center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for anyone needing shelter, said Ben Jackson, Columbus Township trustee. Jackson said if you find someone in need, bring them to 1951 McKinley Ave. where they will receive food and a warm place to stay.
Brighter Days Housing, a partnership between Love Chapel and the Columbus Township Trustee’s office, will be extending its hours also, Jackson said. The facility at 421 S. Mapleton St. will remain open until 10 a.m. each morning, and reopen for nightly intake at 4 p.m. Staff have also prepared so that no one will be turned away because of capacity. If you find someone in need overnight, bring them to 421 S. Mapleton St., Jackson said.
