COLUMBUS
Evadean Elkins, 91, of Columbus, passed from this life at 7:46 a.m. Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Elkins was born November 3, 1927, in Letcher County, Kentucky, the loving daughter of Dennis and Flora Miller Cornett.
Mrs. Elkins was a 1948 graduate of the Kingdom Come Settlement School in Letcher County, Kentucky. She married Willard Elkins April 16, 1949. He preceded her in death November 19, 1985.
Mrs. Elkins was the retail store manager in Columbus for Wonder Bread Company; she retired in 1985 after 23 years of service. From 1998-2014, Mrs. Elkins worked for Dr. Tavel Family Eye Care.
Mrs. Elkins was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and she enjoyed membership in Columbus Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 339, Social Order of the Beauceant and USBC Bowling Association. She was a member and past secretary/treasurer of the Bartholomew County Kentucky Club. She enjoyed playing golf and she participated in the Women’s Friday Morning League at Greenbelt Golf Course.
Mrs. Elkins is survived by her son, Larry Elkins and his wife, Linda, of Columbus and Fountain Hills, Arizona; step-grandchildren, Nicole (Chris) Pierce of Greenwood, Summer (Mark) Carmichael of Scottsdale, Arizona and Natalie (Darrin) O’Connor of Columbus; six step-great grandchildren; her sister, Maelean Pack of Columbus; her brother, James Cornett of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mrs. Elkins was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; sister, Delois Halcomb; and brother, Dennis Cornett.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street, Pastors Adam Carrigan and Jim Horton will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday.
Mrs. Elkins will be laid to rest next to her husband at Garland Brook Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Bethel Baptist Church.
