NORTH VERNON
Norman Richard “Dick” Day, 81, of North Vernon and formerly of Anderson, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born September 7, 1937, in Westport, Mr. Day was the son of the Bert and Sylvia (Gross) Day. He married Constance Eaton on June 30, 1954 in North Vernon; she survives.
Mr. Day was a lifetime carpenter and a mechanic and driver for Atlas Red-D Mix in Anderson, retiring in 1996 after 35 years. He was a lifetime member of Teamster Local #135 and a former member of Eagles Lodge in Alexandria. He enjoyed NASCAR; rabbit, squirrel and mushroom hunting; and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife, Connie, is a son, Norman Richard (Stephanie) Day Jr. of Anderson; daughter, Pam (David) Petry of North Vernon; grandchildren, Chad (Sara) Day and Lisa Day, both of Muncie, Nick Day and Catherine Day, both of Anderson, and Ben Petry and Jacob (Katie) Petry, both of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Cora Petry, Belle Petry, and Josie Petry, all of New Castle, Poppy Petry of North Vernon, and Mason Day of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert, Dean, and Bob Day; and sister, Maxine Robbins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Friday, January 25, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the New Bethel United Methodist Church.
