Panthers pick up win
AURORA — Jennings County was tied with South Dearborn at halftime Wednesday night before outscoring the Knights 42-29 in the second half to claim a 76-63 victory.
Cody Wilson led the Panthers (7-9) with 18 points and five assists. Aaron Martin scored 15 points, Josh Pettit added 14 points and Weston Miller had 10 points and five rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Pacers top Cougars
GREENSBURG — South Decatur led for much of the game Wednesday, but Switzerland County pulled away for a 48-40 victory.
Sierra Lang led the Cougars (5-17) with 11 points. Madison Owens added 10.
Jennings downs Floyd
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County got a look at its first-round sectional opponent Tuesday and beat Floyd Central 47-40 to finish third place in the Hoosier Hills Conference.
Addyson Kent scored 21 points to lead the Panthers (13-8, 4-3) to their fifth consecutive win. Madi Skinner added nine points.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
East sweeps Pirates
GREENSBURG — Columbus East swept Greensburg on Tuesday, with the Olympian boys winning 120-63 and the girls posting a 114-71 victory.
The East girls won all 12 events. Jennifer Utterback took the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 6.21 seconds) and 100 freestyle (57.59), Karissa Miller captured the 200 individual medley (2:28.49) and 100 backstroke (1:05.07) and Maggie Johnson won the 100 butterfly (1:03.58) and 500 freestyle (5:42.08) to lead the Olympians.
East’s Elizabeth Proffitt won the 50 freestyle (26.29), Cloie McDonald took the diving competition (178.90) and Marin Wieneke captured the 100 breaststroke (1:14.49). The Olympians also swept the 200 medley (1:59.10), 200 freestyle (1:50.84) and 400 freestyle (3:59.91) relays.
Ryan Singer led the East boys with wins in the 100 freestyle (52.61) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.44). Other individual winners for the Olympians were Mason Curry in the 200 IM (2:17.25), Chad Kelly in the 50 freestyle (24.50), DJ Rhodes in diving (187.10) and Zach Statler in the 100 butterfly (58.74).
East also swept the 200 medley (1:50.88), 200 freestyle (1:42.53) and400 freestyle (3:41.75) relays.
"We kind of swam people in some different events," East boys coach Dave Fribley said. "I thought the kids did a really good job. With a lopsided score, sometimes it’s kind of difficult to stay focused, but we’re really happy with the way the meet turned out."
