Emergency management issues flood, high water warnings

Bartholomew County Emergency Management issued a flood warning and high water notification for some area roads after melting snow and Wednesday’s heavy rainfall filled area rivers.

The latest road closings and high water postings released by emergency management Director Shannan Hinton included:

County Road 750S/East State Road 58 — still passable

County Road 650S/East State Road 58 — high water

North Dellasburg Road and East Base Road

South Gladstone (south of the bridge) — closed

County Road 400N east of U.S. 31 — closed

County Road 800S between State Road 11 and U.S. 31 — high water

County Road 450N just east of U.S. 31 — closed

County Road 150E between County Road 300S and Southern Crossing

County Road 930S — high water

Several portions of the People Trail system, Mill Race Park and Noblitt Park remain closed due to high water, according to the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department.

A flood warning for the East Fork White River in Columbus was canceled Thursday afternoon after forecasters predicted it would crest at 8.5 feet Thursday night, which is below the flood stage of 9.0 feet.

A flood warning is continuing for the Flat Rock River near Columbus until this afternoon, as the river was at 12.1 feet on Thursday, with its flood stage at 11 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and officials said the river would fall below flood stage this morning.

The flood warning for the Driftwood River near Edinburgh, is continuing after the river registered at 11.5 feet on Thursday, just over the flood stage of 11 feet. The river was projected to fall below flood stage Saturday morning.

For Sugar Creek near Edinburgh, minor flooding is forecast.

Hinton said flooding is occurring along portions of the Driftwood River in northern Bartholomew County, and water is currently near County Road 950N to the Double Y Saddle Club.
