House fire claims family’s pets

COLUMBUS, Ind. — About a dozen pets perished during a Tuesday night house fire west of Grandview Lake.

A single-story residence with vinyl siding at 5010 S. County Road 550W caught fire shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, Southwest Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Billy Koons said.

No people were at home when the fire started, but the flames and smoke claimed the lives of 10 cats, two dogs and one bird, the fire chief said.
